Posted February 14, 2000 Baxter, who also responds to being called "Buddy," (and believe me, this little guy is everyone's buddy) has seen many dark times in his short life. He was dumped at a kill shelter in Kentucky in wretched condition. He was filthy and overwrought, totally baffled by his abandonment. We are not sure why he was given up, but we suspect it had something to do with his heartworm disease. He was severely neglected. It can really make the blood boil to think of the suffering far too many of these animals endure. Why do people get animals if they don't want to care for them properly? I will never understand. Thankfully, I am still heartened by all the good people in the world, like Baxter's wonderful foster mother in Marysville, Ohio. She went to his rescue when we learned he was out of time. She nursed him back to health and taught him what love and trust are all about. And of course there is his special adoptive mother, who was determined to get him to California. With the help of his foster, he headed west without a hitch. He is living in the lap of luxury now. What a turnaround for this precious one. |
