Brandy, AKA "propeller tail," has found a loving home with a
kindhearted lady from Pennsylvania and her adorable daughter. Should I mention her three
feline siblings?
Brandy's story is a sad one. Her former owner took Brandy to a groomer's
shop, saying he wanted her cleaned up before he took her to one of the worst shelters in
Maryland, a place where give-ups are killed moments after they enter the steel doors. The
groomer told him what would happen, but it did not deter him. All he said was "keep
her if you don't want her to go there. We've just had a baby, and she's too much work in
addition to that."
What to say? I'm sure my readers could provide me with some creative
ideas. I will try to refrain and simply tell you that, thanks to a call from the groomer,
we were able to save her from being pound-bound, essentially DOA, and we took her into the
CSAC. After a short time boarding (which she hated), she won the hearts of her new family.
I have to tell you about Brandy's tail. Cocker Spaniels are known for
being wiggle butts. Their tails often don't stop, but in all my years of rescue and having
Cockers of my own, I have never seen any Cocker wag her tail like this one does.
It goes constantly. I have not seen anything like the way it spins in circles
when she sees anyone. I've never seen a dog love people so much. I thought she
might take off and fly away on more than one occasion. If we put her in water, I am sure
she would glide across any lake, faster than a speedboat. It's just incredible. Everyone
who has seen her has commented on it, while lavishing hugs and kisses on her.
Brandy is a precious baby, and now she has a happy home. Here's to the
wigglebutt! I'd like to include a recent letter from her adoptive
mother. Please read on.
It has been a year since Brandy joined our household,
and she is doing wonderfully. I could not have asked for a better dog.
She is even happier than before, although she seems happy no matter
what. When I first got her, she seemed afraid to ask to
go out, and she cringed when I would reach for her. Now when she goes
to the door, and I ask "do you want out," she starts jumping
up and down. She has also taken a strong liking to my father. I have a
house under construction across the street from him, and we will be
moving in the spring. We go up to my Dad's a lot, and she sleeps with
him when we are there. She loves it up at his house, and I think she
will be really happy when we move. We have 40 acres on
a one lane road with only one other house on the road. It is mostly
wooded area, and she loves to nose through the weeds and leaves,
following the different animal smells. I also
found that her favorite food is cherry licorice. She is hooked on it.
Once a week, I get a small bag for her. Her ear infections seem to be
under control now. [My daughter] just loves her, too, and they run
through the house chasing each other. I hope you
have a nice holiday and that the same is also true for the dogs you
care for. |
