Puppy Love

Died July 13, 2001

One of my kindest supporters recently lost the best friend she's ever had. As a tribute to her and to him, and to both of their generous, noble spirits, I am adding precious Colby to our Memorial Dogs. Please read his mother's words. She tells his story better than I ever could, and my heart broke over her devastation. Anyone who has ever loved a dog will understand. There is no remedy for it. Not even time.

I wanted you all to know:

My dear friend, the love of my life, left us on Friday 7/13. He died very peacefully without any warning. He enjoyed life to the very last minute; we walked an hour before he died.

Colby and I shared a wonderful vacation together in Maine the week of July 4th, when he hung out with Briggs, one of his doggy friends. In June, he saw one of his favorite people, Jean, the day after his 11th birthday. In May, we traveled to Connecticut to visit another of his favorite people, Laurie and her family.

Colby was always here for me, and it really hasn't sunk in that he's not here anymore. I know he knew how important he was to me. I told him every day how much I loved him and what a good boy he was.

Soon I will create a website in his memory, which will have pictures of Colby and his many human and animals friends, including Kate and Jack. For now, I'm trying to absorb this enormous loss. Please say a prayer that Colby is at peace and safe. He's now without his mother (me) to take care of him.

Thanks for listening.

With love,
Sherry
