In memory of Ratagast, the Miracle Dog
June? 1988 - April 6, 2001

Ratagast was a special boy to his family, and I was touched by him and what he inspired in them. Read on, and you will understand. I am going to let his beloved mother say goodbye.

Life lost much of its luster the day you died. We try to take comfort in knowing that you no longer suffer the ravages and inconveniences of cancer. You were the picture of bravery, endurance, and gentle nature. You tried to check yourself out of the hospital the morning after the surgery to remove your cancerous leg. That indomitable spirit was so you.

In the end, though, the cancer won.

The truth is that no amount of time with you would have been enough. We were so incredibly lucky to have you. The cancer gave us an opportunity to say goodbye and to be absolutely certain that you knew how well loved you were.

We hope that you are now somewhere beautiful, chasing bubbles, enjoying belly rubs, and hiking nature trails. Our fondest wish is to receive the gift of being reunited with you someday.

In the time that we have left on this earth, we have opened our hearts and home to Cocker Spaniels needing a second chance. We now work to save your brothers and sisters in loving honor of you, a fabulous dog who never met a stranger and who tackled all of life with an infectious joie de vive.

We loved you so much and will miss you always.
