Revised July 9, 1999

It is with great sadness that I must tell you of the passing of sweet Sammy, a precious old boy, abandoned at the age of 15! at a vet's office in Trenton, New Jersey. I posted his plight last year, and he was fortunate to find love in his final days in the arms of a special lady. Please read the words of his adoptive mother. It is clear that they shared something very special, indeed. I wish he had known her all his life.

On June 24,  I had to say goodbye to my most beautiful, precious little boy, Sammy (AKA "Hunny"). His 16-year-old body could no longer fight the ills of old age, though he tried his best. I knew that this was the time I needed to step in and set him free. He has been my biggest inspiration in helping out other needy Cocker Spaniels, and it was because of him that I started my rescue group. He epitomized what a Cocker should be: merry, silly, and most of all, the most loving companion you could ever hope for.

Losing him has just been devastating, but I want people to know what absolute joy an older dog can bring to your life. The love that these older dogs have to give is just astounding, and there is no greater joy than taking care of an old soul. Yes, it is a little more work, but it is a privilege. He has opened my heart wider than I ever though it could be opened.

Thanks for listening.
