Adopted April 26, 1995 Died October, 2000 Trixie was abused and completely terrified when she came to us. It took a long, long time to bring her around, but TLC won the day. She was adopted by a caring woman in Maryland., who sent us the following letter shortly after she went to her forever home. Trixie has been a joy to have around. She is such a sweet dog. She adjusted easily to her new home. She obviously was trained because she never tried to jump up on any of the furniture, and she has never chewed up anything other than rawhide bones. She is a good sleeper. She sleeps a fair amount of the time, and she can really snore, so loud it sometimes wakes me up. She likes to go for walks, and she has a purple ball that she likes to fetch when you throw it for her. There are lots of dogs in my neighborhood, and she even has two Cocker Spaniel friends. The picture shows Trixie with her multi-colored windbreaker jacket, which was a Christmas present. It will be one year on April 25, 1996 that I adopted Trixie. I am certainly glad I called last April and inquired about adopting her because she has been such a great companion. I can't believe that someone gave up such a wonderful dog. I'm sorry to report that Trixie passed away in October of 2000. Her mother had four wonderful years with her. Trixie was a senior dog when she was first adopted, so she knew it could not last forever. I guess we hope for more, though. Always, we hope for more. We received the following letter from her. I wanted to let you know that Trixie died on Saturday. I adopted her in April of 1995. She was 9 years old then. Most people could not believe that she was 13 years old,; she acted much younger. I had a wonderful four and 1/2 years with her. She was such a sweet dog. This turn of events has been devastating for me. She had emergency surgery on Thursday night. She had eaten her dinner, and later in the evening her stomach seemed quite bloated to me. I took her to the emergency clinic in Rockville. Her stomach had twisted, which the vet said was highly unusual in a Cocker. She seemed to be doing pretty well on Friday; however by Friday night it appeared she developed pneumonia. They put her on nasal oxygen and continued the IV. I called the vet at 7:30 AM on Saturday, and she said Trixie was holding her own. She seemed to be breathing better and stood up in the cage. I was relieved and thought everything was going to be fine. Then I received one of the worst calls of my life at 8:30 AM. The vet said she had turned to work on another dog, and when she turned around again Trixie was dead. I think that I provided her with a wonderful home, and she enjoyed her life. I feel such a sense of loss. The house seems so lonely without her here. |
